Welcome to A View To... the portion of
my web page where I suddenly got the urge to show you some pretty pictures
of my home country, Scotland. These photos were all taken by either myself
or my mum, and though my dad studied photography, neither I nor my mother
claim to be anything other than snap happy photographers. All of the pictures
below were not taken because we thought we'd take a particularly good photo,
but with a view to turn them into watercolours by me at a later date.
(If
you want to see some of my paintings, go to my page of art at http:\\www.detour.force9.co.uk/grafitti/art)
Below are small versions of the photos
(which may still take some time to load) that I have prettified just for
you. To see a large untampered version, click on the picture. Please note
my scanner is not the best and some of colours have not come out very well
so I've had to fiddle slightly. They do look better in real life.
All views are copyright of God and Scotland.
All photos are copyright of Dawn Garden or Sheena Garden. If you wanna
use any of the pictures for something, ask and ye might recieve.

These first two photos were taken at a small fishing town on the
east coast called Arbroath. Both pictures were taken of the stretch of
water (I dunno if it's a canal or tributary or what) running down to the
harbour. The first is looking down into a small tunnel with the harbour
to the right and Arbroath's famous fish smoking houses to the left. (On
the large version you can also see my friend Shona hamming it up for the
camera on the right). The second pic is very hard to tell but it's a duck
and all her little babies in the water just below the tunnel in the first
pic, with the fish smoking house reflected into the water. It was the reflections
which made me think these views would be interesting to paint.

These next three were also taken in Arbroath on the same day. I
have a fondness for painting boats, so I just went mad and took loads of
photos from different angles. I think the compostion of the second and
third photos will make good paintings, particularly with the glowering
Scottish sky (it was actually a beautiful day). Plus the third one has
the Scottish flags flying!

The next three photos were taken near a place called Kirkintilloch,
just outside Glasgow. My boyfriend works in a pub there called The Stables,
and the views in these pictures are the view from The Stables' beer garden.
It is a beautiful spot for walking along the the canal path (or sitting
outisde the pub and watching other people walk along by the canal!).

The next three photos were all taken in Perthshire, a gorgeous
area of Scotland. The first and third views are from a place called The
Hermitage, which is an area of woods that have rambling paths which take
you on a walk along by a river (I assume it's a river I really don't know)
and past a stone hermitage (no longer used, except by kids wanting someplace
to snog and drink). It's one of my favourite palces to take photos but
they never capture the beauty of walking through it, nor the speed and
force with which the water goes down a small waterfall. The photo in the
center is of the fish ladders (in the right of the picture) in Pitlochry.

These three pictures are from a variety of places. The first picture
was taken by my mum of Broughty Ferry pier. Broughty Ferry is a sort of
extention of my home town Dundee, by the River Tay. My church is right
on the waterfront, so mum often carries her camera to try and get nice
sunsets etc when she's to-ing and fro-ing from the church. I don't know
if you can tell on the photo but there is a speedboat and a waterskier,
and there are some fisherman sitting on the pier (Broughty Ferry, the San
Tropez of Scotland! hehe). The second picture was one that mum took while
she was out hillwalking, but we don't know where in Scotland she was. It
was taken with a camera which takes four photos in quick succession. Thus
the resulting print of each individual shot is very small. However I thought
the view through the tree of the men fishing was so pretty it was worth
the lack of quality. The third picture was taken up a hill looking out
towards Glasgow airport. The hill upon which I stood while taking this
is about 2 mins drive behind The Stables pub, so as you can see there are
gorgeous views all round my boyfrend's work (including me!).

I took these last two photos when I was at my friend Lezley's wedding.
The reception was held in a castle in Fife (I'm so bad at names!) and this
lake/bigpond was in the grounds. Sadly when scanning these pics the greens
didn't come out very well but it is the most gorgeous lush green place.
The ideal spot for wedding photos.

Well thanks for stopping by, hope you
enjoyed looking at the photos. If you want to commission me for a painting
